GAZZAN - Extinction (Tape) self released 2016

To little Clevo content here anyway: since the US postage prices are killing it at the moment (and then even DIY labels make their customers paying through the nose1), I have to go digital sometimes now.
Gazzan features the Melnicks, Blaze and even Rob Orr and their demo includes all Clevo parts you expect adding a modern progressive metal touch you usually expect from Relapse Records and the like. Sometimes I need to get used to the vocals, but overall it's great. I am falling for those guitar solos until the end of days!

ARMICIDE - rehearsal demo '92 (Tape) self released 1992

Thanks Matze - for years of dedication and friendship! Here is Armicide's rehearsal demo. Tigher than the later stuff but also in a quality which we call "Misfits '81".

Sadly "I am I" is cut off on the tape I received, so I have included this song twice: with the cut and in a faded out version.

Enjoy this contemporary document!

ARMICIDE - Live im Studio (Tape) self released 199?

Here is the so called "Live im Studio" tape. I do not know the location or date - maybe someone can help out! Must be the end of 1992 or even the beginning of 1993?!
Five songs and twice abandoning an attempt for "Exit", quite well rehearsed this time and already sounding very Mine-ish. Some songs were then presented under the name Mine live and on tape compilations already.

ARMICIDE - demo 1992 (Tape) self released 1992

I thought that the world wide web would offer nearly everything today, but I was wrong: Armicide's demos are nowhere to be found. Hailing from Switzerland and being the direct antecessor of Mine the band had a small group of cult followers - a result of the network of friends and their live performances -who would even later advertise bands and outputs by those guys with "ex-Armicide". This is their first real demo, there's a rehearsal demo which is the reason for this posting: BB wrote me and I was damn sure that I still have it in some boxes. After hours of searching I could just locate the inlet/cover of that ominous demo but I still haven't found it. So if anyone could help out please, this is your chance to be overflowed with gratitude! This is the tracklist:

1. A Five Minutes Walk
2. No Tears Shall Drop
3. Only A Moment In Time
4. Fortschritt
5. I Am I

It was recorded in January 1992 in their rehearsal room and is until this day the best thing they have ever done. That's why the result of my search is even more frustrating! At least I found another tape which I once bought from Gonzo: live recordings in a studio - a post will follow.

Back to their first real demo: it sounds somehow a bit to heavy headed. I miss the compactness of the rehearsal tape! You can hear without doubt a huge Infest, Citizens Arrest and Crossed Out influence but all with a straight edge and mosh touch - there is an endless list of bands from the old continent who did that very well! Besides the tapes some songs ended up on compilations clearing the way for a new chapter: Mine (followed by Ferguson, Cataract, Damage i.d., Arma Gathas, Lions...).

NO ESCAPE - demo (Tape) self released ca. 1990

After years just listening to bad tape dubs - or later as mp3 when the Contrast Records site had a huger audio section (there used to be the demo once) - I finally got it (thanks Gonzo). For many these are their best songs together with the split 7" stuff - most of my friends do not like the album1. The production - it's a demo! - is not the best and there is a lot of tape noise/ distortion, but you can easily get the direction this band was going in 1990..... Burn, Grunge, Youth Crew bands slowing down in sound, Amphetamine Reptile Records, ABC No Rio bands... it's all there, but quite unique in my opinion. Still lacks the power of the album so I do not get the people who prefer this demo to anything the band has done later.

DISMAY - demo (Tape) Rockhouse Productions #?? 1994

Dismay's demo was released in several versions with different song orders and some with different covers (one version was featured at Middleagedyouth, but this blog is gone now). Their 1995 version is listed at Discogs.com and I am very interested in it since it features different songs. Besides the stuff I own Dismay also released a demo in 1991 and I am very interested in it. I can also remember seeing live recordings from that time in tape trading lists but the MP3 just killed it.

Dismay hailed from Wilton a small town in Connecticut - about 16. or 17.000 inhabitants - and dissolved too early. They only recorded a few songs which all appeared overlapping on different releases, which I will post now. I don't know why they never became more well known. The time - 1994/1995 - was just right for this well played mid tempo hardcore. The production is right, the singer does a great job and the half personal half critical lyrics are well written. Of course one band comes directly to your mind/ear: Burn (sometimes Eye For An Eye too). Dismay just sound like Burn did never stop to exist - until their reunion. Where Burn left a breach Dismay was filling it for me and they did my expectations justice. 14 years later I can still listen to this and enjoy it.
If you have any more informations on Dismay please leave a comment. Thanks.

Sadly their singer passed away in 2007. RIP.

Update:

I was able to find the former Middle Aged Youth posting at archive.org:

"About a year and a half ago, while on a 2-county musical shopping spree, I walked into a local record store that I had never been to and started up my usual A-Z browsing of CD titles. While browsing, my eyes were constantly being drawn toward the wall of cassettes they had, fully stocked and completely neglected. By the letter H, I realized that I wasn't finding a goddamn thing to buy in the CDs, so I walked over to the wall of tapes and saw the sign that said "$1.50 each, or 10 for $10". It's a well-known fact that people do not buy cassettes anymore, and this was obviously a blowout-sale of sorts. I noticed that all of the titles were old, and I started to get excited wondering what I was going to find. It didn't take long before I realized that they had tons of demo tapes in the selection - jackpot. That's a quick way to my musical heart - present me with a feast of demo tapes from unknown bands. I pilfered through the wall-rack and pulled out 20 cassettes, 15 of which were demo tapes from bands that I had never heard of. I took them home like a kid with a new video game, but ended up stashing them away after listening to only a few. I recently pulled them back out and was elated to find some really good shit in the bunch, both Hardcore and Metal.

Which brings me to Dismay. All I know about these cats is that they were a Hardcore band from Connecticut and released this demo in 1994. Other than that, they are a complete mystery to me. There must have been 500 bands called Dismay over the years, so finding any info on them has been nigh impossible. Running a few different Google searches produced nothing except the band Palehorse mentioning them in an interview with Bystander Fanzine and a kid who had this on a trade list. But this shit kills, period. The first thing that jumped out at me was how much the vocalist sounded like Chaka Malik (Burn/Orange 9mm) in his delivery. Dude is almost a dead-ringer for Chaka, but really sounds like what would happen if you could somehow splice together the voices of Malik and Anthony Comunale (Raw Deal/Killing Time). The music has an obvious Burn influence as well, though it is crossed with the CT/NJ HC sound of that era, and is a bit "laid back" at times while still being crushingly heavy. I find myself playing this thing over and over lately, especially "Nowhere" and "Madness". The part in "Madness" where it kicks in with "...there's no way out" just fucking smokes my ass, and makes me wish I had found these guys when they were around. I gobbled up this kind of stuff like it was breakfast in those days, and I still love this style of HC. One confusing thing about this demo is that the songs on the actual tape do not match the songs listed inside the cover, so I wonder if there was another demo and they got crossed, or if it was just a weird decision by the band to change songs after the covers were copied (?). Also, the tape had no labels for Side A and Side B, so I don't even know if this is the proper order for the songs. I'm hoping that someone out there knows more about them and will clue me in, because if there is anything else out there floating around by this band, I have to have that shit.

(UNION OF) URANUS - backhand (Tape) Daybreak Records 1994

These songs are also on the split 12" with His Hero Is Gone (became something like a neo crust and emo scum wet collectors dream) and again on something like a discography cd (which no one needs (?) because it just features the songs from the split 7", the 2x7"/12" and the demo (which means those lazy bastards didn' t record more songs?)). I just thought it might be a nice posting including scans of the tape cover. Union of Uranus, Uranus or (Union of) Uranus were an ignition for a whole wave of bands especially in Germany and France many bands originated who were mainly or directly influenced by them (Uranus nearly had the same impact like bands like Unbroken, Born Against or His Hero Is Gone/ Tragedy/ Remains Of The Day had concerning waves of new bands). The demo is still a bit behind the great 2x7" but a damn good offbeat by a new band. Released on Daybreak back then which is one of the many names of the label most of you know as Great American Steak Religion or Feral Ward or Witch Hunt. One band member went on to play in His Hero Is Gone and Tragedy as you might know.

GO! - a remembrance - live in Homburg live in Homburg AJZ 29.6.1991(Tape)

This is really a quite fine remembrance: Go! live on their European tour.
I wish Mike Bullshit would talk less between the songs because the whole show lacks a bit power due to this. But yeah: the communication with the audience thing was big in the early nineties. I still prefer Mike' s version to all those preaching political hardcore bands of that time. Speaking of preaching: Go! were fun, they were a funny band in a very positive way and at the same time they were dead serious about queer topics, scene bullshit etc.. Just think of the stuff that came out of N.Y. the late 80ies/early 90ies and then there is this straight edge hardcore type of band that partly plays this music but lyrically really took another direction. In my opinion bands like Los Crudos, Limp Wrist or Gayrilla Biscuits would have never seen the light of day without Go!.

Go! are back together again, they played some shows (I heard a radio recording and it sounded powerful for such old lads) and released a 7". All their other stuff pops up very often, you can get the 7"'s or the "total" compilation lp on First Strike quite cheap; their lp/cd on Epistrophy which is almost a discography is still available from mailorders worldwide or directly from Epistrophy.

All - like Nations On Fire did - now: Thanks Mike!

CHEETAH CHROME MOTHERFUCKERS - Right to be Italian - demo '83 & last gig '87 (Tape)

It' s a pity that you only find few informations about one of the best Italian bands of the 8oies. I mean for example there is the Kill From The Heart entry or even a Myspace "fan"page but with nothing on it; just some covers, pictures from the records and a discography (can anyone tell me why no one is willing to do a discography cd by C.C.M.?). And bloody hell: there is no single Google hit concerning their demo tape "we' re the juvenile delinquency"?

After I saw the first 7", the split tape and the second 7" quite a few times on all this downloading/mp3mos blogs I thought it might be nice to add this one. I will also do the lp soon since I have not seen it on all those blogs - if so: please tell me.

C.C.M. were my first real contact with Italian hardcore from the 80ies and they just blew me away (me being an idiot: I ignored all the other great bands for a long time despite many recommendations by friends). Some guys who took the name of that Dead Boys guy and just added "motherfuckers" can' t go wrong. What ever they had on their mind or in their bodies while choosing it: it' s one of the greatest band names ever!
Musically in my opinion they were to Italy what were +Void+ and Septic Death to the U.S.. And if +Void+ wouldn' t had started playing bad hard rock their unreleased lp should have sounded like C.C.M.

Back to the tape: it is listed as bootleg in some lists but I do not think so, my Italian is very bad but as far as I can get it from the liner notes Robert & Giulio (thanks for putting out that tape back then) used the original master tape for this compilation. If someone can translate or tell me exactly about the liner notes: just post it as reply here (PLEASE!). Anyway here you get the last gig in 1987 and the demo tape "we' re the juvenile delinquency" from 1983. Most songs of the demo are - of course in better versions - on the single, the split tape and the compilations ("single ticket to paradise" etc.), here they sound way more punk rock rooted.

The download also includes the whole scan of the cover.

Someone told me that C.C.M. had another demo tape in 1983 with nearly 15 songs, so if anyone can give some informations: drop me a line. Same goes for an original cover of this demo! Thanks.

By the way: here are some snippets from 3 old Italian video compilations including C.C.M. live in 1983 and 1986 (there are also snippets from Rawpower, Negazione, Wretched, Kina etc.). If someone can do digital versions of those videos: you' d be my hero.

Update: I was told that this Tape is still available from E.U. 91 (same goes for the Negazione live tape I wanted to post in the future)! I also found this review on their homepage:

"Another strike for the invincible E.U.'91 + Provinciattiva team. Roberto's ability was to find telephone numbers of original band members and be so friendly + persuasive to always get to the point (licence to put out official releases). With CCM this worked out contacting the former guitarist Antonio who quickly agreed about doing this diy tape + sending the original masters and a brief commentary. This C-60 features the band's Demo '83 (according to me one of their best things ever) and a brilliant soundboard recording of their very last show. Unbelieably sick and direct Granducato HC with one of the most deranged vocals ever. I always loved them to death, too bad none of their records has been reissued yet. Tons of copies sold/traded, with no doubt over 1000."

7 INCH BOOTS - death over Mülheim - live attacks & studio outtakes (Tape)

As promised
before: another 7 Inch Boots Posting. Most of you might know them as being one of the bands before Bohren & der Club of Gore but mainly they are kinda overlooked today. Who cares as long as they are important to some fraggles and freaks out there?!
This tape was released by Horizons (yup, the Hardstance song) which was a small fanzine
(1), tape label and mailorder in the early 90ies in Germany. Done by Gonzo who was writing for the huge ZAP fanzine back then and who was also the singer of Lebensreform.
The songs are live tracks, studio and demo outtakes and like most of the Horizons tapes: there wasn' t tracklist on the cover so I just kept it in one single track. After some requests I uploaded the regular demo tape again, to help out the 7 Inch Boots fans who never heard this one.

NO FOR AN ANSWER - live in Treviso, Italien 11-2-1994

Who cares?

7 INCH BOOTS - "walkin' through" 8 Song Demo (Tape) Hopser Prod. 1989

Aber kommen wir zum eigentlich Grund meines Postings zurück (when will this guy ever shut the fuck up?): 7 Inch Boots und deren Demotape.

Devotion of industrial people).

"Industrial Annual Report”

"Education Through Pain

The Mission has been terminated«, verkündeten Throbbing Gristle 1981 und gaben so ihre Auflösung bekannt.

Von beantworteten Fragen, die bis zu »Do you live with your parents?« oder »Do you use alcohol? What types?« reichten, versprach man sich wohl aussagekräftige Käuferprofile.

In diesem Sinne: »The Mission has not been terminated.«
