FUGAZI live recordings mp3 archive (Double CD-R) Bootleg 200?

About nine years ago Alex gave me those MP3 CD-Rs. It was a dawn of a new era (remember Audiogalaxy?) and personally a hard one: I was and still I am a diehard tape trader. While most of my friends and trading partners went digital I still was into the old way. Not because of a new medium but mainly because of the huge amount of music coming into my house and the loss of one thing: communication and the time to deal with music itself. While I was still able to make it through a shoe box full of tape dubs by my friend Steff until today I was not able to go through all the MP3 CDs he burned me. A decade later I also think that many efforts made in the early years of going digital were for no purpose: although many MP3s have a better sound quality than tapes the early stuff is poorly ripped. Some days ago I made it through old MP3 CDs with audio books of some of my favourite philosophers and authors and I couldn't stand it: the files are cracking, there's clunk and constant background noise. They went to the garbage can and I pulled out old tape dubs of Luhmann and Bloch for enjoyment. What I miss most is the communication: a lettre and a parcel is not only haptic but also takes more time and effort and will also be appraised more. Blogging and an e-mail with ten download links do not really touch me - you can burn me DVD-Rs with free jazz and cosmic muzak but I will still attach more importance to a crust punk demo tape with xerox copied cover some 16 year old kid from overseas sends me. Yeah, let the old fart prattle.

Howsoever here are two CD-Rs with one of our favourite bands - some of the stuff is not available through the Fugazi Live Series which justifies the posting in my opinion. It took me three computers and four drives to get the files onto my hard drive without CRC errors. I am not sure if this was just a compatibility problem of operating systems that are ten years older or if the CD-Rs are dissolving like many of them do. The sound quality varies a lot and the bitrates are low but I think you will have some pleasure with the stuff.

My Beatles tapes are still running without any problems in a 20 year old Sony tape deck, fuckers!

DYSTOPIA - live Bunker Nimmerland, Friedrichshafen, Germany 05-23-1997 & tour poster

Here is the European tour poster with a nice Queen rip off, some years before the Locust record came out. The posters came out of the print shop when the tour was already done - nice timing -, so I am quite sure, that not too many have seen it yet.

Dystopia are among my all time favourites and - for me - one of the best things ever coming out of hardcore and punk, and although I do not like the idea of being a fan: I am a huge Dystopia fan. They played live at our local youth club together with Präparation-H, Hifi-Killers and Painted Thin, due to four bands playing at the evening, Dystopia started about 3 o' clock in the morning, but it was one of the greatest concerts I attended, which I am going to share here with you since many Bunker Nimmerland shows were recorded onto mini disc directly from the soundboard.
I thought about doing a official tape with this show some years ago and Mauz also agreed on doing so since it should have been a benefit for an activist who got caught during hunting sabotage. After familial problems, me moving 700 miles away and the recipient of the intended benefit turned out being a total asshole the tape never saw the light of day. 2 years ago Pat from Useless Recordings and me thought about doing it again, me writing Mauz again (after I "found" him at Myspace), but Pat and me never pulled our lazy asses together. At least I managed to do a digital version now. The Präparation-H1 show was recorded too and after I sent Dan a digital copy some weeks ago they decided to release it as an official CD! So keep your eyes open for this release and grab some of the last copies of the latest 3" CD by them.

GO! - a remembrance - live in Homburg live in Homburg AJZ 29.6.1991(Tape)

This is really a quite fine remembrance: Go! live on their European tour.

I wish Mike Bullshit would talk less between the songs because the whole show lacks a bit power due to this. But yeah: the communication with the audience thing was big in the early nineties. I still prefer Mike' s version to all those preaching political hardcore bands of that time. Speaking of preaching: Go! were fun, they were a funny band in a very positive way and at the same time they were dead serious about queer topics, scene bullshit etc.. Just think of the stuff that came out of N.Y. the late 80ies/early 90ies and then there is this straight edge hardcore type of band that partly plays this music but lyrically really took another direction. In my opinion bands like Los Crudos, Limp Wrist or Gayrilla Biscuits would have never seen the light of day without Go!.

Go! are back together again, they played some shows (I heard a radio recording and it sounded powerful for such old lads) and released a 7". All their other stuff pops up very often, you can get the 7"'s or the "total" compilation lp on First Strike quite cheap; their lp/cd on Epistrophy which is almost a discography is still available from mailorders worldwide or directly from Epistrophy.

NO FOR AN ANSWER - live in Treviso, Italien 11-2-1994

1994 tourten No For An Answer zusammen mit Mean Season durch Europa; Dan, der Sänger, musste sich deswegen übelste Ausverkaufsvorwürfe gefallen lassen, getragen teils durch Hetzkampagnen in Fanzines etc. Zu dem Zeitpunkt erschien dann auch eine mies aufgemachte CD - wahrscheinlich aus dem Hannoveraner Raum - mit der LP und der 7" und Napo druckte unzählige Shirts für diese Tour. Who cares?
Was ich an Dan O' Mahony immer so toll fand, war die Weiterentwicklung der eigenen Persönlichkeit, die öffentlich erklärt wurde oder in Texten z.B. Fehler, der Vergangenheit revidiert oder entschuldigt wurden. Man denke nur an die zynische Abrechnung mit Straight Edge, moralinsauren Schwätzern und den Ewiggestrigen in Form der Speak 714 Texte oder zuvor ansatzweise bei 411.
Die Band habe ich damals in Ulm gesehen und kann auch heute nichts Negatives darüber verlauten lassen: sympathische, kritische Ansagen, solides Spiel der Klassiker und vor allem dieser charismatische Mann mit der kräftigen Stimme.

Diese Aufnahme ist von eben dieser Tour, das Konzert fand in Treviso statt und ich habe sie per Tapetrading erhalten. Vor einiger Zeit stellte ich meine digitalisierten Aufnahmen, genauso wie zwei von Youth Of Today, Rob vom Stop Look And Listen Fanzine (eher Straight Edge und an klassischem Hardcore orientiert, aber immerhin ein solides Papierfanzine) zur Verfügung, der diese dann auch online stellte; jedoch hat er meine Version erneut codiert, so dass dies mit einem weiteren Qualitätsverlust verbunden war.

Neben den LP und Single Hits sowie dem feinen "Man against Man" spielte die Band auch Carry Nation Songs, darunter "Temple Walls", in dem - inkl. der Ansage - entsprechend Stellung gegenüber dem damaligen Krishna Trend/Wahn im Hardcore bezogen wurde.

No For An Answer Tonträger, sind bis auf die 7", die von Revelation wiederveröffentlicht wurde, eigentlich nur über Ebay oder Tauschbörsen erhältlich, aber dann nicht allzu teuer. Ende der 90er gab es eine CD von Cargo von der LP inkl. der Carry Nation 7", die immer mal wieder auftaucht.
